aikido
Peace Education Center
Aikido is generally practiced as a non-violent martial art based on harmonizing with an opponent. In the style we practice, which we call Hara-Dance, there is no opponent. We have de-emphasized the martial imagination in favor of cultivating Aikido principles that apply to everyday life, the principle of sovereignty in particular.
The joyful, nature based movements of Hara-Dance are designed to develop and support physical well being, vibrant neurology, and healthy relationships. Our Aikido is not dependent on strength, speed, size, or technique, and is suitable for all ages, genders, and body types. We pay special attention to centering and balance and the quality of embodied listening. Aikido is fun.
